ELECTRIC CAR PROJECT 9311 DIARY, OCT 94
---------------------------------------------------------------------
10/6/94
Finished "design" of front battery rack. Four batteries are oriented
as pairs, side-by-side, instead of four-in-a-row. This orientation
yields smaller width. Is tight fit. Started fabrication of rack.

10/16/94
Completed "frame" of front battery rack. Ended up about 1/8-th inch
wider in the front than in the back. Is trapezoid. Now must locate,
fabricate and attach mounting "ears" on sides. Firmed up design of
front battery box.

10/18/94
Finished attaching mounting ears on front battery rack frame. Rack
is now complete until figure out how to work battery box hold-downs.

10/19/94
Marked fuel tank lower half for cutouts needed to clear battery
rack. Drilled various holes in battery rack and in car and installed
three 5/16" aluminum rivet-nuts. Bolted front battery rack in place
at the three rivet-nuts and one fuel tank mounting nut.

10/20/94
Made cutouts in fuel tank half to clear battery rack. Primed edges.
Sealed pipe stubs and undercoated area around them and drain plug.
Made and welded together a "patch" out of thin steel sheet for the
cutout in the fuel tank support. Reconfigured welder for 0.024 wire
for this operation. Primed the patch and the area around it.

10/21/94
Installed patch in fuel tank support with pop rivets. Primed again
and then undercoated patch and surrounding area.

10/22/94
Installed quarter inch thick medite board on work bench so as to
have a nice, flat work surface. Installed two 5/16-th inch aluminum
rivet-nuts for fuel tank hold-downs.

10/23/94
Enlarged cutouts on left side of fuel tank half. Primed. Applied
undercoat to bottom of fuel tank half. Installed fuel tank half with
Porsche part number 901 504 932 20 sealing strip. Used firm set seam
sealer to seal cutouts. Primed.

10/24/94
Installed front battery rack (temporarily).

10/27/94
Reinstalled stone guard.

10/31/94
Cut parts for front battery box. Routed rabbet joints. Started to
assemble but ran screw head through side and into bottom. Will need
to make new side and bottom.
