ELECTRIC CAR PROJECT 9311 DIARY, AUG 94
---------------------------------------------------------------------
8/3/94
Took revised motor bracket sketches to Amick Metal Fabricating to
get parts made.

8/4/94
Practiced welding.

8/10/94
Practiced welding.

8/11/94
Picked up motor bracket parts from Amick and delivered to Foreman's
for welding.

8/15/94
Picked up motor bracket from Foreman's Welding. Parts did not fit
together perfectly so had to do some grinding. Drilled holes per
drawing. Installed. Motor holes were slightly skewed (filed one
out a bit) but fit pretty well. Transmission ended up about 1/16
inch low at reference poit. Can compensate by lifting up before
tightening mounting bolts. Removed bracket for painting.

8/16/94
Cleaned bracket with Prep Sol and primed with Rustoleum. Messed up
so removed primer and then primed back of bracket.

8/17/94
Primed front of bracket and inside of battery box. Painted back of
bracket flat black (Rustoleum).

8/18/94
Painted front of bracket and inside of battery box flat black. Paint
on bracket didn't seem to be adhering properly. May have been caused
by residue from the Prep-Sol so removed to back to bare metal with
wire wheel. Cleaned with Prep Sol then soap and water. Primed.

8/19/94
Painted bracket.

8/20/94
Installed motor bracket and tightened all bolts. Installed new split
lock washers on the engine support bolts as one of original knurled
lock washers was missing. The transmission reference point ended up
about 1/8-th inch low. This is in part due to the repositioning of
the lower dished washers above the rear engine support (adjacent to
rubberized mount, dish side up) instead of below. The dished washers
didn't seem to fit properly where they were originally installed but
could not find any clues as to the proper installation in any of the
manuals. Reconnected clutch and throtle cables and shift linkage.

8/22/94
Contemplated installation of pot box. May be able to mount on a
bracket attached to left upper transmission attachment bolt.

8/24/94
Cut away part of fuel tank support that would interfere with front
battery rack. Painted inside of right battery box. In some spots,
first coat of paint had "pulled away" and left strips of primer
visible. Had similar problem when painting motor bracket. Primed a
bare spot near right battery box. Adjusted jack stands and shimmed
so that car is level. Made some measurements and began design of
front battery rack and box.

8/27/94
Built frame of 1 by 2's same size as front battery rack for use in
determining measurements and fit. Made measurements and revised
drawing.

8/29/94
Ordered U S Battery Model 1450 battery case from Interstate Battery.
